Clydebank almost went behind after a mere 2 minutes when a high cross went over Halpin, and the Broxburn attacker scuffed his shot towards an open goal. Halpin collected the weak shot, though, and the warning gave the Bankies that good ol' kick up the arse we much needed.
A minute after Broxburn almost scored, it was Clydebank's turn to attack. Mark Hailstones swung in a corner, which resulted in a Ryan Waddell corner, which ended up with another Clydebank corner, and the spell pf pressure paid off when Hailstones' cross found Crawford's head, and he nodded the ball over the impressive Greenan to make it Clydebank 1-0 Broxburn Athletic, after 3 minutes.
Apologies for this slimmed-down report, by the way. Too much on my mind i.e. starting a new career to put too much into a 2000 word report! Anyway, after some Broxburn pressure and the new guy John Mitchell missing a chance for a debut goal, a Broxburn player got booked. Who was he? Feck if I know. Who cares, anyway? On 19 minutes, Greenan made a fantastic save with his legs while David Simeon headed wide the rebound. After Simeon failed to connect to another cross on 23 minutes, feck all happened for a while. But Broxburn then showed some real counter-attacking skill, a great counter on 35 minutes saw a shot well saved from Halpin (he saved us a lot through this game), and a rebound a moment later hit the side netting.
Crawford hammered a volley over the bar seconds later, and then there was half-chances and corners until on the stroke of half time, Crawford scored the goal of the day, whacking the ball with his left peg right into Greenan's top left hand corner. A great strike from the Beast, the score was now Clydebank 2-0 Broxburn Athletic, after 45 minutes. That was the last action of the half, so it was 2-0 at half time.
Six minutes into the second half, Broxburn won a penalty. It WAS a penalty in my eyes, despite many Bankies diagreeing. Anyway, it mattered not as the penalty cracked off the crossbar and stayed out, Clydebank's lead still intact. I was right behind the goal when they DID score, though, Clydebank failed to clear and the ball was fired past Halpin to make it Clydebank 2-1 Broxburn Athletic, after 66 minutes.
Ten minutes to go, Ryan Waddell had a moment of magic, dribbling his way through the Broxburn defence and shooting with his left foot across into the bottom corner, a great effort from Waddell and it was now Clydebank 3-1 Broxburn Athletic, after 80 minutes. A single minute remaining, and Broxburn made it 3-2 thanks to a header from a corner. But 4 minutes into injury time, Derek Readie OFFICIALLY gets his first Clydebank goal in a competitive match to make the final score CLYDEBANK 4-2 BROXBURN ATHLETIC
