Manager: Billy 'Budgie' McGhie Assistants: Gerry Crawley, Bobby Cameron
Coach: Davie Coates Physio: Lynn Barr Kitman: Johnny Hardy Players: Goalkeepers, Defenders, Midfielders, Forwards. Stephen Mehigan (Goalkeeper) Played: 6 A fan favourite, had a superb season the first year back (2003-2004), and the highlight of it all has to be his penalty save at home to Lesmahagow, which probably spurned on promotion! But he got sick of having to fight for his place in the first team, and the inevitable happened. He just gave in. Morale was getting lower, he was losing self confidence and in the times he had chances to impress, he blew it with silly errors (like a Larkhall incident). His impact on the club will not be forgotten, Stephen Mehigan helped us to winning the title with vital saves, and I'm sure a Bankie will still buy him a drink if they see him around. Paul Halpin (Goalkeeper) Played: 19 He has settled in very well, and has ousted Scott McNab for the number one role. Now Halpin has impressed the fans and is now pretty much the new "Scotland's Number one" in the eyes of many Bankies. Some outstanding saves as of late has earned him that title, so let's hope he gives us more reason to shout out that chant to him throughout the season.
Scott McNab (Goalkeeper) Played: 11 Scott McNab has left Clydebank and gone to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. David Harris (Defender) Games started: 1 Has decided to leave Clydebank to play in the amateurs. Brian Harkins (Defender) Games started: 28 "Harkie" is the captain of Clydebank, and penalty taker. Returned for Clydebank for the away match with Carluke, and he is a vital player. He has played for the likes of Shettleston, Blantyre Victoria, Vale of Clyde and Maryhill. He takes command at the back, and can read the game well.
Billy 'Budgie' McGhie (Defender/Manager) Games started: 0 Hardly features actually playing, as he's the manager. He's guided the team to the top in their first season back, and will look to help get Clydebank to the highest level of football possible. A Bankies legend, as a player and now as a manager. Has coached Shettleston before being at the Bankies.
Graeme Dempsey (Defender) Games started: 19 A regular on the teamsheet, a very good crosser of the ball. He can play at right back, defensive midfield, right midfield, centre midfield - he's a quality player who can play well, in multiple positions. His favoured role is right back, though, pushing down the wing as much as possible. Has previously played for many clubs. Joined from Maryhill, but has been at Greenock Morton, Clyde, Knightswood and even apparently played for Clydebank when he was younger. He's playing through an injury, which is why he's not 100% lately. Recently went under an operation, and will be hopefully be back soon.
Mick Fallen (Defender) Games started: 34 A new aquisition from Neilston, he's an experienced defender who has talent and will be a valuable asset to Clydebank for their push to the top of the Junior leagues. After a shaky start, he's gelled into a great defender, thanks to the experience and awareness of Harkins at the back, controlling his defence.
Derek Watson (Defender) Games started: 1 He has been released by Clydebank after only playing one match back this season. Injury has not been kind to him, and even though he came back to full fitness could not establish a regular place in the team. I'm gutted he's gone, and hope he finds another team soon. Click on his name for an exclusive interview I had with him.
Jon Crawford (Defender) Games played: 24 Like Budgie, played senior football for Clydebank as well! He is an incredibly talented defender, his aerial prowess is superb, usually winning every header and notching up a few goals along the way throughout a season. Joint winner for Player of the Year, and he's one of THE stand-out players for Clydebank. He has plenty of experience, and after he was at Clydebank at senior level, moved on to Abroath and then Queen of the South. He has an active interest in planes, and flys regulary. In fact, he wishes to fly for a living, and will fly out on Monday 14th February to go to America for a few months to study more. So we'll be without the beast until mid-to-late April, sadly. He says he'll keep himself updated on the Bankies whenever he can, though. Click on his name for an interview I conducted with him.
Sean Brady (Defender) Games started: 32 Another new aquisition for Clydebank from Goldenhill U21s, he can play as a full back or a centre back, and at just over 6 foot, looks like he'll be a strong aeriel presence at the back. He has already shown his amazing talent for throwing a ball very, very far, setting up a few goals already this season. So deadly, in fact, that the opposition would rather concede a corner than a throw-in near the goal! He is a defender, though, and his first great defensive game was at home to St Roch's in the Sectional League Cup.
Joe Allison (Midfielder) Games started: 8 He must not have impressed in training, seemed to have a great start to pre-season but has gradually gotten quieter throughout the months. Showed some brilliance against Yoker just before Christmas. His previous clubs were Johnstone Burgh and Campsie Black Watch U21s.
John Mitchell (Defender/Midfielder) Games started: 14 He's a new signing from Kilsyth, he scored against us last season for Kilsyth in the West of Scotland Cup quarter finals. Made his debut for the Bankies against Broxburn Athletic in the Scottish Junior Cup 2nd round replay, and had a solid game. Give a bit of time and he'll probably be a contender for player of the year. The silly twit had to get himself injuried in only his second game, though, but he'll be back soon hopefully. Gary Esdale (Defender/Midfielder) Games started: 11 Signed in March 2005, he is a local lad from Faifley who used to play for Yoker until work committments forced him to move to England. But he's back, and Budgie snapped him up even though a few other clubs wanted him. I hope he settles in well with Clydebank, and I am looking forward to seeing him feature this season. Welcome to the Bankies!
Sinclair Soutar (Midfielder) Games started: 16 "Sinky" can play in midfield OR defence, and is one of the new signings to Clydebank. A player aged 25, and has played for the likes of Maryhill and Petershill. He was signed from Cumbernauld United. Has been fairly good so far this season, was getting better and better with each game. But a freak collision with team-mate McIntyre saw a blood clot develop in his leg, which required an emergency operation. Thankfully, he's recently made a full recovery and his first game back was in the 1-0 home defeat to Thistle. I'm just glad to see him back!
Mark McGuire (Midfielder) Games started: 2 He has signed for Shettleston.
John McIntyre (Midfielder) Games started: 7 A talented full-back who is very good at taking free-kicks. A left-footed player, he can defend well and has a decent pass on him when he pushes forward. At full fitness, he can be a vital player for any team.
Danny Prior (Midfielder) Games started: 0 Famous for his "40 yard screamer" against Johnstone Burgh in the cup in season 2003/2004, but injury has been unkind to Danny. A good player, who can throw deep balls into the box and be a threat to any keeper. It has been confirmed he has left Clydebank, so we'll now await for THIAF to make some sorta tribute to him, seeing as THIAF adored him. Shame he's gone, I never got to see the best of him in action. Des Kelly (Midfielder) Games started: 12 Looked very promising at the start of the season, but after a certain incident against Shettleston has shown uncertainty and has not been as on fire as he was at the beginning of the season. BUT he wowed the fans in the 2-1 victory over Greenock Juniors with great crosses, superb runs and almost scoring as well. He's back on fire!
Danny Simpson (Midfielder) Games started: 10 He was a trialist in the Carluke V Clydebank match, and even though I knew his name, was not allowed to name him. Instead, I dropped subtle hints, like saying "D'oh!" when I almost named him in that match report. To me, he's got great aerial ability for someone his size, and I'm not the only one he's impressed. Biggalsuperbankie is convinced that he'll thrive in a central midfield role, running at defenders or something like that. He played in the Douglas Smith memorial match, but I was 400 miles away so bit hard to tell how he done there. I hope he soon becomes a regular on the team-sheet and win over the Bankies faithful with some superb performances.
Ryan Waddell (Midfield) Games started: 35 He can hit smashing corners, and has a knack for troubling keepers with free kicks, too. He's really good defensively as well, and he was previously at Dundee United for 3 years. A good overall player, and has captained the team usually while Harkie's been out.
Mark Hailstones (Midfielder/Forward) Games started: 30 A gifted young footballer, who isn't afraid to skin a whole team if he wants to. He chases the ball for 90 minutes straight and can also cross the ball in well. Has great pace, and is most effective on the right hand side, on the wing in a midfield position. Is effective up front too. He was joint Player of the Year last season, and he's always a target for the opposition to take him out. A real threat to our opponents, and he injects life into the team at times. His previous clubs have been Carse Thistle, Levenvalley, Kilpatrick U21s and Maryhill. ONE complaint I have, though, is that recently he tries to do TOO much himself. It worked last season against lower-grade teams, but it's better opposition he's up against, and he can't just wander in and out of 11 opposition players. But still a great player.
Michael Tolland (Midfield/Forward) Games started: 10 Also known as "Pires", by the young fans, has good pace on him and is a strong attacking threat. An impressive player, no doubt. He can't score penalty kicks, though, he missed 2 in a row! He can create chance, that's a guarantee. He's not as fortunate when it comes to scoring, though. Still a good player, who can play on either wing and runs at defenders constantly. His previous clubs were Clyde, Cumbernauld United and Wishaw. David Fisher (Winger) Games started: 3 His name has been floating around for ages, at least 3 months. Part of a swap-deal with Graham Mackay now a Maryhill player, he's had a career in both Senior and Junior football. He has played for Partick Thistle, Kilsyth and of course Maryhill, and now he is a member of the Clydebank squad. He'll have a battle for a place on the wing alongside the likes of Maxwell and Hailstones, so this can only mean good things, to have plenty of cover in these areas. Frank Alexander, who runs Maryhill's website, had this to say about him: "I have been watching Fisher on and off since he was a Partick Thistle u19 player. He was doing really well at Maryhill when he first came but contacted a serious illness from which he has fully recovered but was unable to fight his way back into the team. Playing wide he runs at defenders and crosses a great ball. Has been known to score the odd goal too."
Clinton Maxwell (Forward) Games started: 20 He can play up front, but he's right at home on that left wing. He can pass it well, run past defenders with considerable ease, score goals and create chances. He'll be hoping to be a regular in the team. Has played for Campsie, Milngavie and Goldenhill.
David Simeon (Forward) Games started: 7 A year after signing from Kirkintilloch Rob Roy, David Simeon has gone back to his old club after failing to secure a place in the Clydebank team. Best of luck to the big guy!
Paul McGlinchey (Forward) Games started: 5 New signing, has played full-time for Morton and Kilmarnock. Was advised by medical guys to take a break after a niggling knee injury. A player with great potential at only 20 years of age. After watching him come on as a substitute against Dunipace, I must say that he seems to be a player who is good at creating chances, could be good on the wing taking on defenders and running into dangerous areas. But it's hard to judge on watching less than 40 minutes of him playing a game. I'll give him some time before I have a strong firm opinion on him. But so far, so good!
Mark Kilpatrick (Forward) Games started: 0 Picked up a groin strain in the Neilston tournament, and will not be risked for the Sectional League Cup. He's a quality player, and every match he played in last season for Clydebank he scored. He'll be gunning for a regular place in the team, and to be honest could be our most effective striker. Ryan Scobie (Forward) Games started: 11 I don't know a great deal about him, he came on against us in the friendly between both sides in July as a substitute, and a fan thinks of him as fairly decent. He's hopefully going to give us some strength up front, so it'll be a good competition now for places as an attacker. Here's what an Arthurlie fan, Kenneth Robertson, had to say: "He was the top goal scorer at one stage of the season. Injected a bit of life into Arthurlie game."
Derek Readie (Forward) Games started: 16 Signed from Goldenhill U21s, and is another striker we have attained. He'll have to work hard, with such talent like Hailstones, Kilpatrick and even Simmy with his height to contend with, or even Maxwell, who was starting to really shine as the season drew to a close. He works hard for the ball, he's a tall young striker and he's been unlucky not to get a goal so far this season. The fans feel that if he gets a couple of goals, he'll start to feel more comfortable and at ease in the Clydebank squad. A promising player, can't wait to see what he'll produce for Clydebank as a new league season draws nearer. Paul Wilson (Midfield/Forward) Games started: 3 He wasn't happy not getting enough first-team action with Clydebank and has moved to Drumchapel United.
PtB wins the best 11 but it's me who ends the season on a high by guessing all 11 players correctly to start. Moonaki's points this week halved due to the rule of him being such a lazy fecker and not submitting his own team, biggal finishes 4th but should be 3rd in my opinion and it's been a fun addition to the website. Great to get guys involved, PtB's still a cheeky monkey but well done to him and biggal as well, he often chose what he thought was the BEST choice instead of what he thought Budgie would go with (best choice in his opinion, of course). I done this a few times too I must say, and usually it didn't pay off. Thanks again guys for participating, I was gonna suggest a prize but they only did it for fun. If I'd won I'd be bugging them to death for a fiver each! Well done again PtB.
T.H.I.A.F. v C.T.I.D v Biggal v PtB Ronaldinho a.k.a. moonaki has come up with a deal, all in the spirit of competitiveness between 2 die-hard Bankies fans. He has seen my idea, liked it, and got on the band-wagon, and came up with an idea himself, for both of us to compete to see if we can predict Budgie's starting line-up for each Bankies match. BUT what's this?!? biggalsuperbankie and Paul the Bankie want in on the action! They want to teach us young whippersnappers a thing or 2 about knowing what the best team will be, and so instead of 2 websites battling, it may turn out to be another "Young Guns V Old Crocks" affair, except it's every Bankie for themselves! The scores are as follows:
Player Statistics (click here for full player stats) TOP GOALSCORERS (COMPETITIVE GAMES): 1) Clinton Maxwell (13 goals) 2) Jon Crawford/Mark Hailstones (9 goals) 3) Ryan Waddell (5 goals) MOST APPEARANCES (COMPETITIVE GAMES):
