28/05/05 - END OF THE ROAD

The season is over concerning all the teams in Clydebank's division, disregarding Vale of Clyde who have to face Pollok in the Evening Times Cup (last time they played them in February or something in a friendly, Pollok won 2-0) and with the end of the season comes the end of this website. And what can I say, it's been a brilliant season. Sure, the Bankies didn't get promoted but they still made a strong impact, and some boring-as-hell league stats are as follows:

  • There were 244 goals scored at home and 197 goals scored away from home, a total of 441 goals scored in this division this season from the 132 matches played.
  • There was 61 home victories, 36 away victories and 35 draws and only 6 of those draws were no-score.
  • Most common scoreline was 1-1 as it occured 17 times this season, followed by the 2-1 home win, the 2-1 away win, a 1-0 home win and surprisingly a 3-2 home victory as well was fairly common. The match which had most goals was Vale of Leven 4-5 Shettleston, played on 20th November 2004, an incredible 9-goal thriller at Millburn Park.
  • Gary Kirkwood's last two matches of the season that he has been in charge of a Clydebank game has seen him dish out 17 yellow cards and 1 red card, an incredible 2-game record!
  • Clydebank and Carluke scored the same amount of goals this season - that ain't no real secret, but someone also forgot to mention how Dunipace have also scored the same amount of goals this season! 36 goals scored for Dunipace, Clydebank and Carluke. So Carluke's problem lies in defence then, they had no real problem sticking in goals...
  • Anyway, boring stats time is over. Basically, the season's been terrific, I've really been in love with every moment of it. There's been the joy of winning the opening-day derby against Vale of Leven, the disappointment of being defeated off Yoker the very next week, the very first two league matches were certainly full of emotion. We beat Johnstone Burgh again at their own ground (although they got sweet revenge later on for that this season) and also defeating Cambuslang Rangers, the Scottish Junior Cup victory over Broxburn only to be knocked out by our promotion contenders Dunipace. The controversy away to Shettleston, the home defeat to St Anthony's, the Winter washout of matches (which saw me attend a few Vale of Leven matches at Millburn Park) and the last three months. It's been a hell of a rollercoaster, it seemed like a couple of weeks ago when Clydebank won at HOME to Vale of Clyde thanks to a Ryan Waddell free-kick when in fact it was in early March.

It's not just been about the games, though - it's been about the people. A few new friends made this season, like EK goalkeeper in the 70s Eddie MacDonald, an avid Thistle fan to this very day (Thistle committee were welcoming too when Bankies visited Showpark, the warm hospitality warmed us all up on that freezing day). There's Garry at Carluke, unlucky for them to go straight back down but he was a great source of information this season. David Graham at Benburb, who has re-introduced match programs for his club that could give Alan Urquhart a run for his money, has also been of great help this season to which I am thankful. Chris MacAllister, a Greenock player who finds time to do his website for his team and he's been a good help this season too. And the management and committee at the Ants, clear to see why players enjoy playing there - a great bunch of guys running things there. But I'm most thankful for the Clydebank fans themselves, like big Rab who was time-keeper for me many times at games, soccer doc (I won't say who he really is!) for those snazzy photos for the last game of the season, Andy (gonk on Bankies forum) for helping out with the Junior Scene, Moonaki as well for the same reason (he helped way back at start of season, and I ain't forgotten), Joe who has often provided fantastic information for the Junior Scene and also helped in match previews and reports, and was a reason the website lasted this long to be honest. There was a time in the season when the club's views didn't meet with mine and that disagreement brought about a tense few weeks for me, which did test my views on Clydebank FC as a whole. This was an unofficial and independant website and the club were, in a way, telling me how to run it. But it is in the past, the club know how I felt about it (for the record - pissed off and still am) and everyone, myself included, just got on with the season and resumed normality.

This website was for the fans, to inform them of anything that maybe just ONE of them would be interested in. It had incredibly long match reports and a league table that a super-statto would struggle to decipher but it was there to inform people who may have not been lucky enough to make it (shoutout to norwichbankie and any other Bankies either down south or in America like Alan Urquhart) and also for the neutrals to enjoy, fans outside of Clydebank. I've had great feedback on the Junior Scene and was surprised to see the Dunipace management actually print out my match preview and show me (didn't help them really, they were lucky not to lose!) and when going to other grounds, I've been recognised for my work on this little website. I really hope everyone who visited this website got what they were looking for - if they did, then I'm glad I was able to help.

    Proud to be a Bankie.

26/05/05 - McNAB DEPARTS FOR KIRKINTILLOCH ROB ROY

Scott McNab has departed the club and gone to Super League First Division side Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. Nick-named "Stevie Woods" by THIAF, he's had to perform brilliantly week in and out to hold on to the number 1 jersey ahead of Paul Halpin, who is already a damn fine goalkeeper as we've witnessed this season. I wish Scott all the best next season at Rob Roy.

This day is special for this website because it is the 1-year anniversary since it first began! And what a year it's been...ach well, it'll only last another day as well, but on this day last year "Clydebank Til I Die" was born. It should be a public holiday, I tells ya!

22/05/05 - THE ONE AND ONLY BOBBY WOODS

Clydebank fans were devastated to hear of the passing away of Bobby Woods, a Clydebank fan for over 60 years of his life. He died after hearing the outcome of the Clydebank result against Benburb, and was able to last until the end of the season. His team just missed out on promotion but they still done him proud. I am only sad that I hardly knew Bobby Woods, yet I was close to tears when reading the tragic news.

The photo on the left is from last season, invited in to celebrate with the team and manager after clinching promotion. It's a famous photo and was put on T-shirts as well, a photo showing Bobby and how proud he is to have just watched his team get promoted. This season he has missed out on a lot but has always kept updated all the same on his team's progress. He was no doubt the most dedicated Bankies fan, to have been a steward at Kilbowie, to help run buses for the away games, to have supported the Bankies when they were originally a Junior team and watch them go senior and then help out at Glenhead when the Bankies were back in the Juniors again he has been there to support and to help. And he couldn't go without hearing how his beloved team did this season.

A BANKIE FOR ME, A BANKIE FOR ME,
IF YOUR NO A BANKIE YER NAE USE TO ME,
THE RANGERS ARE BRAW, THE CELTIC A NAW,
BUT THE BONNIE WEE BANKIES ARE THE BEST AY THEM AWE!

    R.I.P. Bobby Woods.

21/05/05 - BRILLIANT BANKIES MISS OUT ON PROMOTION

A magnificent performance from Clydebank on their final match of the season was not enough to gain promotion as Dunipace grabbed a 7th-minute injury-time winner against Yoker to grab the final spot. Dunipace are up by a single point ahead of Clydebank but it was still an incredible performance from the team, who have nothing to be ashamed of. Read the full report here.

Now, I said months ago that the poll asking if you want this website to continue or not would end with the last kick of the season for Clydebank, and I stand by that comment. No more games for the Bankies, and I could tell you the results of the poll (most voted yes, for the record) but it matters not because this website will officially end next Saturday, 28th May. Until then I'll still update the league table and any news that may occur. Thank you everyone, especially Bankies fans and players alike, for their support this season of this website. I done it for the club and in return I've mainly been encouraged to keep up the effort and for this I am eternally greatful. I will do a big thank-you speech next week, though, saving it for then.

    Proud to be a Bankie!

    18/05/05 - THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

    Pos
    Team
    Pts
    2
    Dunipace
    37
    3
    Yoker
    36
    4
    CLYDEBANK
    36
The league table now looks like it does on the left as the season gets ever closer to nearing an end. All three sides have one game left to play and it's guaranteed ONE will drop points as Dunipace and Yoker play each other on the final day as Bankies play host to Benburb. Only 1 point between three times, with Dunipace holding on to the last promotion spot by a single point. Victory on Saturday over Yoker would promote the Pace no matter what but any other result could see either Clydebank or Yoker take the step up to the Super League First Division. An incredible end to the season, I'm sure you'd agree.

And just think, Yoker would've been second right now had they not got 5 sent off against Dunipace and forced the game to be abandoned and have points deducted...

    17/05/05 - THIS WEEK'S FOOTBALL ODDS

Latest odds for this weeks' games in Clydebank's division:

William Hill football odds (Wednesday KO 7:15pm)

    Yoker
    7/4

If I had any money then the Greenock match might be a good place to start for a decent flutter. You have Rutherglen's rather decent recent form combined with Greenock's rather decent home form as of late so it's tough to tell who'll win out. Rutherglen know they NEED to win otherwise they are relegated, so that may be enough for them to inspire them not to lose in their final league game. Exciting times down at the bottom end of the table...

As for Saturday, Dunipace V Yoker have very good odds, I keep forseeing a 1-1 draw between the two sides (which is a dream result if you're a Bankie). LTrack predicts that, going by recent form, Yoker will win 2-1. That's also a good result for Clydebank IF the Bankies themselves win 5-0, or 6-1, Clydebank NEED to win by 5 clear goals ahead of Yoker (if they win) to go up.

11/05/05 - ANTS A CLASS APART FROM BANKIES AT McKENNA PARK

Clydebank were beaten by the better team (not for the first time this season) as St Anthony's secured their safety with a 3-1 victory. A full report of the game, and ONLY the game and not what went on off the park, will be up tomorrow (Thursday). I will also update every other relevant page tomorrow, like player stats and such. Only this page and league table page have been updated due to me being tired.

It was fancy dress and biggalsuperbankie made a very impressive effort to emulate Clydebank's head of Security Jim Finn. A ginger wig, a steward's jacket and an inflateable shark was all that took for him to get my own vote for costume of the evening! Moonaki pulled off being Mark Hailstones while some stranger who knew absolutely feck-all about football was in costume too, as the match referee! Clydebank CAN still go up, theoretically but it's looking like a lost cause. Clydebank have still done magnificently in the space of two seasons to being complete newbies in the Central District Second Division to fighting til the end for promotion into the Super Leagues. Not an easy feat for any club to pull off. I'll continue this sappy note after the Benburb game, as well (as promised months ago) the outcome of the poll to decide whether this website will continue next season or not. Remember, until the final ball is kicked the poll will continue.

    10/05/05 - WEDNESDAY'S FOOTBALL ODDS

Latest odds for Clydebank's game on Wednesday:

    William Hill football odds
    Home
    Draw
    Away
    23/10
    St Anthony's
    11/4
    Clydebank
    4/5

If I had any money then I would hold on to it for dear life. But odds like this are a neutral fans' dream at times, good odds for a home win or a draw. And the Ants have beaten Clydebank this season already, so it'll be a toughie on Wednesday. Everything's not lost.

09/05/05 - CLYDEBANK CRASH AS VALE OF CLYDE ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS

The worst-case scenario situation became a harsh reality tonight as Clydebank lost out to relegation-strugglers Greenock Juniors 2-1. Clydebank were leading through Crawford but a wonder-strike brought the scores level, and while Clydebank pushed everyone forward late on Greenock scored a winner with their best move of the game. Read the full report here.

It leaves Clydebank sitting a point ahead of Yoker and Dunipace with the advantage of knowing that if they win their game in hand they can leap-frog the Bankies on goal difference, even if Clydebank win all their remaining matches. The Bankies need a favour or two from other teams and also need to take a good look at how they performed tonight. I hope Budgie and the players are used to this division because it looks like they're gonna be in it for another season. I hope I am proved wrong on Wednesday.

07/05/05 - TIN PAIL DON'T HAVE A SCOOBIE AS BANKIES EARN DESERVED VICTORY

Clydebank won what was a must-win game thanks to goals from Ryan Scobie and Clinton Maxwell. A fantastic team performance from all involved, it's the kind of stuff that champions are made of. Vale of Clyde are still officially promoted so they can take that from today, but Clydebank can still win the title if they win their last three games. Read the full report here.

Elsewhere, Dunipace drew 1-1 with Clydebank's Wednesday opponents St Anthony's and Yoker beat Benburb 2-1. East Kilbride won 2-1 against relegated Carluke and Forth beat Clydebank's next opponents Greenock Juniors 1-0 in the Central League Cup. And what the hell, congratulations to Lanark for winning the Central District Second Division title today!

Oh yeah, vote for your own man of the match by clicking here. This bit's tricky: The poll to vote for your own man of the match will end on TUESDAY EVENING, and then a poll will begin so you can vote for your man of the match against Greenock Juniors, which'll end on THURSDAY EVENING and then I'll start a poll for the previous night's game for St Anthony's. Get voting, make your vote count!

    04/05/05 - TONIGHT'S RESULTS

Clydebank were the real winners after tonight's league results as both Yoker and Benburb drew their games. Clydebank remain in second place and the other result tonight (Rutherglen 3-1 Carluke) means Carluke are officially relegated. Vale of Clyde are not yet officially promoted. Click here to view the league table as it stands now.

Many Bankies were at both the Yoker game and the Dunipace match as well, and those at Holm Park were impressed with Greenock's attacking but not too impressed with defence. Basically, we tighten up in defence and be full-strength then all we gotta do is make sure we attack well and everything will be all fine and dandy. But when is life ever like that nowadays?

    03/05/05 - THIS WEEK'S FOOTBALL ODDS

Latest odds for this weeks' games in Clydebank's division:

    William Hill football odds (Wednesday)
    Home
    Draw
    Away
    5/2
    Benburb
    5/2
    Dunipace
    4/5

    11/10
    Rutherglen
    5/2
    Carluke
    7/4

    4/6
    Yoker
    13/5
    Greenock Juniors
    3/1
    William Hill football odds (Saturday)
    11/10
    Vale of Clyde
    5/2
    Clydebank
    7/4

If I had any money I would be VERY tempted to back Benburb to getting some kind of result against Dunipace. Benburb's home form has been surprisingly good so I can see a few people cashing in on that result. Other games worthy of a flutter are Greenock Juniors beating Yoker at Holm Park (they done it before this season) and as for the Bankies match...no comment. For once, Clydebank have odds that can win you money! Ach screw it, it's worth a flutter for sure!

    29/04/05 - A BANKIE BRAINTEASER!

I've gotten a bit bored waiting for the Vale of Clyde match next week so I made a quiz for Clydebank fans to take. Click here to answer the 4 questions.

Speaking of the Tin Pail, the Bankie boozers may want to turn their attention to my guestbook as there's information on pubs and such near Fullarton Park. As for my own match preview of the game, that will be up in the next few days.

27/04/05 - SUBSTITUTION INSPIRES BANKIES FIGHTBACK

The Bankies are now 2nd in the table after an exciting game of football at home to Greenock Juniors, and after the visitors took a shock lead Clydebank excelled in the second half, and Des Kelly coming on was what the team needed. Clydebank scored from open play for the equaliser, and a penalty conversion from Brian Harkins earned Clydebank three points. Both sides were unhappy with the man in the middle as well, just for the record!

For a full report, click here..

27/04/05 - SINKY IN THE DAILY RECORD

For those not in the Glasgow area, Sinky Soutar was in the record with the story concerning his horror injury, and coming back to play again for his club when there was a possibility of not even having a leg! For the full article, click here.

In the report, it says things we already knew like a horror clash with fellow Bankie John McIntyre, he put on a brave face but later that evening while at his engagement party. But he ended up in hospital, and the funniest quote I'll hear today: "One minute I was dancing to The Slosh and The Alleycat then the next I was heading to A&E in the back of my mate's car with my trousers round my ankles and ice on my thigh." How embarassing, can you imagine anyone dancing the Slosh?

The Record also running a competition, it's the hardest question on Earth. Who does Sinky Soutar play for? If you think you know it's Clydebank then send in your entries with name, address and daytime phone number to: SportsWeek, Daily Record, One Central Quay, Glasgow G3 8DA. The prize is a free £25 treble bet from William Hill. The guy who won it this week is betting on Vale of Clyde losing to East Kilbride Thistle, Greenock to lose to Clydebank and Kilsyth to beat Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. No offence to the Rabs but I'm hoping he wins his bet!

    26/04/05 - WEDNESDAY JUNIOR ODDS

Latest odds for two of the top games in Clydebank's division:

    William Hill football odds
    Home
    Draw
    Away
    2/5
    Clydebank
    10/3
    Greenock Juniors
    9/2
    5/2
    East Kilbride Thistle
    5/2
    Vale of Clyde
    4/5

If I had any money I would be tempted to back Thistle to getting some kind of result against Vale of Clyde. Not just saying that because Clydebank need it themselves, confidence will be running high in the team over their great defensive performance over Clydebank at the weekend. I can easily see Thistle and Vale of Clyde drawing!

    25/04/05 - WEBSITE ACCUMULATES 20,000 HITS!

Today has seen my website register over 20,000 hits, a figure I never even dreamed of achieving this season. In total, there's been 7464 unique hits as well, since the counter started on May 26th 2004. So to the person who got the 20,000th hit on my website from a direct hit at 11:56am, congratulations for being the person to reach the 20,000 hits mark on my site. OK, the Bo'ness website recently got over 100,000 which crushes my counter stats but I'm still pleased as hell to have gotten so many hits. Thanks to everyone who has visited the site!

Vale of Clyde V Clydebank is confirmed for May 7th, but let's concentrate on matches before that. I've already said what I think the outcome will be in the Bankies' tie with Greenock Juniors on Wednesday, but elsewhere I am going to estimate that Benburb's home form will mean they'll draw 1-1 at home to Yoker tonight. On Wednesday, I think Vale of Clyde will sadly win 2-1 against East Kilbride Thistle, but for once I'm hoping I am wrong!

23/04/05 - JAGS STING BANKIES WITH SHOCK HOME DEFEAT

East Kilbride Thistle ended their dismal league run of 5 straight defeats by beating Clydebank 1-0 at Glenhead Park. The result leaves Clydebank still a point behind Dunipace, who lost 1-0 at home to Vale of Clyde (I told ya it'd be a good bet). But Clydebank blew a great chance to go second, despite dominating. Feel free to read the match report.

Next up for the Bankies is a mid-week fixture against Greenock Juniors, and it's now a home match. Hoping for a big crowd, as there are fond memories of mid-week fixtures from last season. The Bankies won promotion during a mid-week fixture, what a night that was!

    18/04/05 - WEEKEND JUNIOR ODDS

Latest odds for two of the top games in Clydebank's division:

    William Hill football odds
    Home
    Draw
    Away
    1/2
    Clydebank
    14/5
    East Kilbride Thistle
    4/1
    5/4
    Dunipace
    12/5
    Vale of Clyde
    8/5

If I had any money I'd want to bet on a Vale of Clyde victory. Dunipace are unbeaten at home in the league but they might be on the start of their decline in form and the Tin Pail will be wanting to take all three points this time instead of settle for a point again. I predict 2-1 to Vale of Clyde.

    16/04/05 - BANKIES EARN HARD-FOUGHT VICTORY

Clydebank almost dropped vital points against a Rutherglen team who were at times given too much space to create their own chances. Thankfully, after Rutherglen scored early after the break, Clydebank picked themselves up well and pushed for a win they eventually got through an unlikely source - off the head of Rutherglen defender John Boyle. A full match report now up.

    15/04/05 - OVD SEMI-FINAL LIVE!

Tonight's OVD Cup Semi-Final between Lochee United and Maryhill, being played at 7:45pm at McDiarmid Park in Perth, will have LIVE UPDATES on the Official Bo'ness United website.

The Junior Scene has been updated, lots of information there. As for tomorrow's match, there may or may not be a report from it, as I am unsure as of yet whether I'll be in attendance or not.

Finally, I hope people can get used to this new set-up. Click a title to open the full content, click again to close. Simple!

13/04/05 - SUPPORTERS GAME ENDS IN HUMILIATION FOR UCS TEAM

UCS Supporters were decimated by Clydebank Supporters AFC 7-1 tonight at John Brown's pitches, a result which surprised me as I was expecting a closer match. An early goal started things off for Clydebank Supporters AFC with UCS losing posession and a simple tap-in for the first, and a penalty kick just before half time saw UCS still have some hope for any kind of result for the next 45 minutes. However, the "go for the win" attitude was met with the "We're gonnae out-number you in defence" attitude, and UCS got a resounding thrashing before a goalkeeping blunder from the Clydebank Supporters AFC number 1 seen Paul Cummings get a consolation for the UCS team. The ref was a bit of a joke, but I'm used to seeing the standard in Junior Football to be perfectly honest!

Moonaki was playing but couldn't have too much of an impact sadly. But he did inform me that his computer isn't working right now, so no photos or anything as of yet. I'm sure they'll be up as soon as possible, so ya just gotta wait and depend on constant daily updates on my website. I have WAY too much free time! Anyways, UCS team gubbed and THIAF will not be updated until Moonaki's computer is fixed again.

And Edd's cousin's team, who played at Glenhead Park and ripped the pish out of the excellent Scott McNab, won their tournament which they were raising funds to go to. I hope to see them at a half time at Glenhead Park soon to show off their trophys, maybe it'll inspire Budgie's boys to push all the way for promotion, and maybe even the title (It's not over yet, not by a long shot!)

12/04/05 - CLYDE SHOPPING CENTRE TO SPONSOR STRIP NEXT SEASON

Clyde Shopping Centre, shirt sponsors of Clydebank ever since their return to Junior football, has agreed to sponsor the strip again for season 2005/2006. Special thanks must go to Don Revie for his efforts in getting Clyde Shopping Centre to agree, and to Sandra Carmichael and Bill Hunter as well. The shopping centre is a big part of Clydebank, and it's good to see that they are sponsoring the strips next season.

On this day in 1986, Clydebank defeated Rangers 2-1. A Mick Conroy header and a strike from Alan Bain secured an infamous victory for the Bankies. A certain keeper known as Jim Gallagher was playing as well for the Bankies. This was a game which was played before I was even born, but I wish I could've been there to have seen it.

On Sunday 10th April 2005, this website had 309 hits in one day. This was 102% more than what the site averages, and I struggle to see where all the hits came from. I ain't complaining though, hope it happens again next weekend!

Latest odds for Clydebank this weekend against Rutherglen Glencairn:

    William Hill football odds

10/04/05 - AFC WIMBLEDON ONCE AGAIN ARE CROWNED CHAMPIONS!

I've just done my match preview on Rutherglen. It's 2am, and I have a feeling that I need to go on an old guestbook - weirdandwonderfulworld.com! I find out that by amazing chance, AFC Wimbledon won the title today, a 1-0 victory over a bunch of police. I know that if Clydebank beat any sort of police they'd get the jail, must be different rules for different countries I guess ;)

They've won the Ryman League Division One title, Horsham have had a good season as well. 3230 spectators witnessed an amazing achievement, from a team that got screwed over just like Clydebank did and now they're kicking arse left, right and centre! They're also in the Surrey Senior Cup final, and are rightfully enjoying their weekend with boozing aplenty! Congratulations to all at AFC Wimbledon on this fantastic achievement, hopefully it can spread encouragement to Clydebank as well.

09/04/05 - THRILLING GAME AT WESTFIELD PARK ENDS IN SCORELESS DRAW

A much-improved performance from Clydebank saw them take the game to Dunipace for a lot of the match, but as much as I hate to admit it a draw was probably the right result. I explain why in my match report.

Our next opponents Rutherglen Glencairn drew 2-2 with Yoker at Holm Park, and I must stress to fans, and maybe even management, that we can NOT take Rutherglen lightly! They may be fighting off relegation fears but they're on decent form right now and have 13 points out of a possible 18, and they expect to gain something from their trip to Glenhead Park next weekend. Unlucky to Greenock Juniors, who drew 1-1 with Shotts Bon Accord at Hannah Park and were eliminated 3-2 on penalty kicks.
